Pete Biggenden from Sugarman Education reported for duty on our first ever Takeover Thursday.
Peter is an ex HOD/Supply Teacher turned Recruitment Consultant for one of the biggest London-based consultancies. Being on Sugarman’s books as a teacher, he was always happy with the service that his consultant provided. When his circumstances changed he decided that he wanted to be part of the team that helped him when he was in need of guidance during his teaching career.
He offered advice and reassurance about using agencies.
An area he asked for input from the supply teachers about was CPD as at Sugarman he is taking the helm in developing training for both Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
His questions were:
What CPD would you like to be on offer for you through your agencies?
What positive attributes do you look for in an agency?
When would you prefer CPD to be offered?
Would you be open to paying for the courses and then receiving bonuses after you have completed the courses?
He offered up a snapshot of the jobs available through their London and Birmingham offices and spoke of plans to open offices in other areas.
Peter also helped with general advice as questions from the group arose throughout the day about relocating, using old DBS certificates, and CPD for NQTs.
Overwhelmed with the responses, it took him a while to collate all the information he had gleaned from the group! As a thank you for their time and contributions, Peter gave a goody bag away which included a stress ball that many group members seemed to be willing to fight over - and it's still only September!!
