The staff at Connex Education have admitted to not being very sporty but they were not going to let this stop them from raising money for a good cause so, on Friday 21st March, instead of running marathons or swimming laps, the Connex team, suited up in funny sporty costumes, went on a one-day fundraising fast in support of Sport Relief.
Giving up food for a day turned out to be more difficult than expected but the team stayed strong and managed to raise the fantastic amount of £1,346 plus gift aid of £301.25!
Taking on challenges throughout the day helped the Connex team keep their spirits high when the hunger pains attacked but more importantly, what kept them going was thinking about how the money they raised will help make a difference.
Mark Beedles, Managing Director at Connex Education said “At Connex we are really committed to raising money for good causes. We have held sponsored events for Comic Relief previously as well as taken part in campaigns in support of Claire House Children’s Hospice and Movember. Giving back to good causes is something we all believe in.”
“We all join in thanking everyone that showed their support toward our fundraising fast by either sponsoring us or spreading the word about our challenge; we certainly could not have done it without you.”

An exciting new company has been launched that will provide teaching staff to schools and educational establishments throughout the region. Top Class Education was created by Kate Wright who is the Operations Manager at Cambridge based Crem Recruitment.
Having over 12 years of Education recruitment experience, Kate has always had an excellent reputation within the Education Sector for providing an excellent service as well as providing talented and enthusiastic supply teachers and school staff.
Kate’s passion for the education sector has inevitably led to the formation of Top Class with the backing of Crem Recruitment and with the support of the REC (Recruitment Employment Confederation) and the Institute of Recruiters, where Kate is an Ambassador.
As well as Cambridge, Top Class Education covers East Anglia, Peterborough and beyond. Kate said “Having spent my career in Education, this is where my passion lies. We are not about figures and high profit margins as we truly believe that keeping teacher pay rates high and school charge rates low, really benefits the sector. We will give an honest and transparent service to schools and will provide staff that are vetted to the highest standard.”
Kate has formed some great relationships already with many of the local schools and is very much looking forward to supporting them in their emergency supply cover, as well as their longer term positions.
To coincide with the launch, Top Class have released their ‘Our Promise’ campaign which assures schools that they will get the level of service and expertise that they deserve. Education establishments will also enjoy the many benefits and options that are available to them. Kate Wright believes “We want to make a difference. We know budgets are tighter than ever before and by giving something back to our schools we can start our journey in making a difference”
As well as being a fantastic new port of call for schools and further education facilities; Top Class is also a breath of fresh air for teachers looking for work placements. Offering above industry average pay rates and offering a host of other benefits, Top Class are welcoming approaches from NQT’s, all the way through to experienced and leadership teachers.
Top Class will be headed up by Kate and is part of the Crem Recruitment Group. Crem’s Managing Director, Tom McKenzie, spoke of the new project “Kate has been a real asset to Crem over the past two years and we were well aware of her burning desire to return to education recruitment. Kate presented a business plan to us that we felt really adds value to a sector that effectively represents our future. We believe that with her passion, her team and their level of expertise, Top Class Education will be a roaring success.”
With a manned phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week and with the drive and determination to make a real difference, Top Class Education is certainly a name to look out for in 2014.
As part of their partnership with, and sponsorship of, the Newcastle United Charitable Foundation, First Class Supply were delighted to be able to offer 28 tickets as a prize to local schools to enable pupils to enjoy a ‘First Match’ experience at St James’ Park.
The purpose of the ‘First Match’ experience is to enable children who haven’t had the opportunity to watch their team play, to attend a first team football match, free of charge, and also to enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium by two dedicated guides from The Foundation. The tickets were also offered to parents and brothers and sisters so that whole families could enjoy the experience together.
Mountfield Primary School, Newcastle were the lucky winners and were thrilled with their prize to see ‘The Toon’ play Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Sunday 23rd February.
