Premier Teachers was set up six years ago in Hertfordshire by Mike Donnelly, the Managing Director. After developing a strong hold in the South, we have now opened a Sunderland branch which will be our new HQ. We are working with schools across the UK but we are particularly interested in Teachers and TAs in the Tyneside and Stockton areas in the North and Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire in the South.
All of our consultants are ex-teachers so we really understand your needs and we can help to support you in your placements. We also provide training on site. We currently have a high need for teachers and TAs so please get in touch if you are interested in working in Primary, SEN or Secondary.
Following the decision to leave our full time teaching positions and set up our own teaching supply agency, we are pleased to say that business is growing from strength to strength. In September of this year, we launched Apple A Day Supply. With experience of: supply teaching, having our own classes, working with children of all ages, delivering training days for NQT’s with Wiltshire Council and mentoring PGCE students at Bath Spa University, we felt that we were well equipped to provide both schools and teachers with a friendly, professional and accountable local service.
Since starting on the 2nd of September, we have made over 100 bookings, registered over 25 teachers and are working with schools throughout Wiltshire and BANES. Our schools have referred us to other schools, looked to us for long term recruitment and written testimonials about our service and teachers.
We believe that the reason Apple A Day is being received so well is because we genuinely care and understand, and this shows. Our teachers are supported with help in planning, finding resources, completing job applications, continual training and a personal call at the end of the day to see how their day has been. We take the time to meet our schools and build relationships with staff. We are honest with our schools and very reasonably priced. By stepping into the classroom ourselves during extra busy periods, we are reminded of the challenges our teachers face and are continually thinking of new ways to support our teachers and provide extra to our schools.
It is so exciting how quickly we are developing and we have some very exciting projects coming up. Watch the space!

Children from 14 primary schools in North Tyneside and Northumberland enjoyed a First Class evening of pantomime at an exclusive show of Mother Goose.
Supply teaching agency First Class Supply snapped up every ticket for the Thursday community performance at Seaton Delaval Arts Centre, then organised a competition to allocate the 150 tickets to children and their parents.
First Class Supply co-director Lesley Robinson said: “Last year we supported the local pantomime and had an amazing evening. Afterwards I was talking to one of our teachers who was there.
“She had talked to her children about the pantomime. Sadly some of the kids were telling her they couldn't afford to go to a show like that, so I thought if we were in a position to offer the opportunity to donate tickets for a performance to give to schools, then we would.”
Whitley Bay-based First Class Supply, which is the region’s largest and fastest-growing independent teaching supply agency, contacted the primary schools it works with to decide how best to allocate the tickets. In the end, children from 14 schools in North Tyneside & Northumberland who hadn’t missed a day’s lessons were chosen to attend the special show with a parent and their brothers and sisters.
Lesley said: “We sponsor football strips to schools that we partner, and we are also major sponsors of the Newcastle United Foundation, but this was the first time we've ever done anything like this. It’s nice to put something back.”
St Joseph’s Primary in North Shields was one of the lucky schools. It chose three pupils aged eight, nine and 10 to attend the pantomime.
School business manager, Maureen Lott, said: “We were given 10 tickets which allowed three families who would possibly not have been able to go to enjoy the pantomime.
“One child from each family had 100% attendance records. We had quite a few children to choose from so the head teacher drew them out of a hat. It was especially generous of First Class Supply to provide the tickets.
“The parents came in to see us on Friday and they said they had a really enjoyable time.”
First Class Supply has been providing high quality teachers to North East schools since 2004. The agency prides itself in matching the right teacher to the right school and employs two former head teachers to interview all candidates. As almost 5% of the UK teaching force is made up of supply teachers at any one time, finding the right people to fill temporary roles plays a vital part in students’ long-term education.
Since we started in 2007 we have built up some amazing relationships with the schools in South Yorkshire.
To celebrate what we've achieved and the relationships that continue to grow, we have got our most exciting news EVER!
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Chaplins Pantos to bring the Aladdin Pantomime to one lucky school.
On the morning of Tuesday 17th December we have arranged for a Pantomime to come and perform for a local school chosen at random. Its a show packed solid with comedy, excitement and adventure and we are sure the children will love to cheer their hero Aladdin and boo the evil Abanazar. This is all brought to life by a cast of five top childrens entertainers from the world of theatre. The school that was chosen was Shawlands Primary School in Barnsley and we will be going along also to get involved in the panto (oh no we’re not – ahem – sorry)
As an agency we are delighted to be offering something back to one of our schools and moving forward will be doing similar activities across the regions.
At Connex Education we are very excited as our team keeps expanding by the week!
On December 4th we had our biggest ever New Starter Training Day as just recently we’ve welcomed no less than 9 new members into our team.
Lisa, Emily, James, Lizzie, Sarah, Derek, Patrick, Joseph and Miriam travelled from different Connex branches to our Birmingham office where the training session took place to learn more about Connex and our service toward both schools and teaching staff.
Alex, our Warrington Branch Manager, said: “Everyone made a fantastic effort and I felt that we all got something from it. The team leaders created some excellent activities and everyone put in 100%. These training days are essential no matter whether you have been here for 3 days or 3 months. We cover everything from adverts to sales calls and compliance to visits.”
The training day aimed to help our new members to have a strong start in their new role at Connex and also gave them the opportunity to meet Branch Managers and consultants from other offices.
James, new Resourcer in the Liverpool office, said: “It was a really informative day. With only having started in October, it was a good chance to meet consultants from other offices and of course pick up lots of tips along the way!”
We are all looking forward to seeing what our latest recruits are going to do in 2014 and couldn't be more excited to have them all join our team!
