Supply teachers and teaching agencies often get a lot of bad press when it comes to CPD and I believe that it's time to make a difference. For too long the CPD offered to supply teachers hasn't been plentiful or good enough, which results in a poor level of take up. CPD plays such an important role in the education sector and this positively plays a part in the well-being and self-esteem of the teachers and their impact in the classroom.
I first had the idea of running a CPD conference when National Supply Teacher Week was launched, and I wanted to run a large event with free access to any supply teacher to show that our sector was prepared to invest in the future of the supply teachers we work with.
Randstad education, in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University IoE are really proud to announce the launch of the first ever FREE (FULL DAY) CPD conference event which will mark the end of National Supply Teacher Week. The event will run on Saturday 20th June at Sheffield University and includes a complimentary first class lunch. The event is partly sponsored by Key Group and RACS Umbrella providers.
The content has been designed specifically with supply teachers in mind and this has been influenced by head teachers and supply teachers in focus groups.
We are now ready to accept pre-registration requests from any supply teacher. You don't have to be registered with Randstad education to attend because I believe that this CPD conference should be free at point of entry to any supply teacher that can see the benefit in what we are trying to achieve. Spaces will be limited in some of the workshops so early booking is advised.
Sheffield Hallam IOE would be charging in the region of £275.00 per head for this event if they ran it themselves. But Randstad education see it as investing in the future of supply teachers and I hope to set out a standard for future events and grow support for this format. I hope that supply teachers from across the country will take part in this worthwhile event and see the opportunity for what it is.
This strategic relationship with Sheffield Hallam IOE is an important one, and putting the CPD in the hands of teacher training institutes is the way forward. I'm convinced the 20th June 2015 will be an exceptional day which is informative, provokes learning, socially enjoyable and above all, has a positive impact where it counts - back in the classroom.
